The process we use to create a Bio Diesel Plant
N&T Engitech, follows the following steps in bio-diesel production to set up the facilities and equipment in our plants. The steps that guide our installations include the following:
Transesterification
The Transesterification process is the reaction of a triglyceride (fat/oil) with an alcohol in the presence of strong alkaline catalyst such as NaOH to form mono-alkyl esters and glycerol.
Phase Separation
Successful transesterification reaction is signified by the separation of the ester and glycerol layers after the reaction time. The heavier, co-product, glycerol settles out. Biodiesel and alcohol mixture separate at top.
Crude Biodiesel
Crude biodiesel separated from alcohol by distillation to recover alcohol to be reused in biodiesel manufacturing.
Water Washing
The biodiesel is purified by washing gently with warm water to remove residual catalyst or soaps.
Drying
After washing with warm water, the crude bio diesel will have high moisture, which is dried and sent to storage.
